Question Title How can I speed up my uploads?
Many digital video cameras produce videos in a high quality, uncompressed format. This kind of high quality video is appropriate for tasks such as creating DVDs, but is not needed for a good  Behavior Connect experience. The file size of such a video is usually very large and will take a very long time to upload on a standard consumer-level internet connection.

After a video file is uploaded, Behavior Connect compresses it and converts it into a web-friendly format. In order to save both upload time and conversion time, you can use software on your PC to compress your digital video before uploading. One example of such software is a free Microsoft tool for Microsoft Windows called the Windows Media Encoder, which you can download here.

(Note: if you are converting videos recorded with a Flip video camera, you may need to install video decoding software from the camera prior to conversion. This software is provided with the camera. To access it, plug your Flip video camera into your PC and run the file "SystemINSTALLWindows 3ivx Installer.exe" on the camera's data drive.)

To convert files using Windows Media Encoder:
  1. Download and install Windows Media Encoder
  2. Start Windows Media Encoder
  3. In the wizard that displays, choose "Convert a file:" Choose

  4. Browse for the video you want to convert: Browse for the video you want to convert

  5. Give the output file a name: Give the output file a name

  6. Click "Next"
  7. Choose "File download:" Choose

  8. Click "Next"
  9. Choose "VHS quality video (250 Kbps CBR)" and "CD quality audio (CBR):" Choose video and audio quality settings

  10. Click "Next"
  11. Click "Finish"
The encoding process will begin. Depending on your computer's speed and the size of the video, this process could take several minutes.

Conversion process example

Once the process is finished, you should have an output file that is much smaller than the original video file. This output file can then be uploaded to Behavior Connect.
